It started with a simple idea: drive far in an old car, sleep inside it and tell the story while it was happening.
I wanted to make the most epic season finale possible. Instead of buying a €1,000 flight for a holiday, I bought a Fiat Marea for €900 and drove north. The original plan was to scrap it in Tromsø. That never happened. I went back for it and, crossing Finland on the way to Estonia, thought: “I’m going to drive around the world in this car.”
Three months later I quit my job, rented out my apartment and left Barcelona for Tokyo. I was absolutely terrified. Mechanical problems started on day one while, at the same time, the story exploded online. 29 days later, sleeping in the Marea on a street in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, I reached one million followers.
After a month back in Barcelona, it was time to return to constant change: not knowing where I would sleep, what would happen or who I would meet. The plan was clear: collect the Marea in Toronto, service it properly and head south. One step at a time.
