Because the budget was €1,000. At that price, you do not choose the car; the car chooses you. There were very few options and most were in rough condition. The Marea appeared near Barcelona for €900 and was never selected as an expedition vehicle — which is exactly what later made it part of the story.

No. The original plan was to drive to the North Cape, scrap the car in Tromsø and fly home. Instead, Fabio left it there for two weeks, went back to collect it and drove roughly 5,000 km back to Barcelona. While crossing Estonia, he decided the story — and the Marea — should keep going.

Yes. Fabio travels, drives, films and handles the day-to-day project solo. He removed the front passenger seat and the rear seats to create enough room to sleep inside, keeping only one removable rear seat for exceptional situations.

Yes, almost every night. The setup is intentionally basic: a small inflatable camping mattress and a sleeping bag rather than a camper conversion. He mainly uses accommodation in very large cities such as New York, Mexico City, Buenos Aires or Seoul, where sleeping in the car is especially difficult.

Very little. Beyond removing the seats, the Marea remains mechanically close to standard. The priority is frequent maintenance, servicing and oil changes. After breaking two oil pans, Fabio added a skid plate in Santiago de Chile — probably the most significant modification on the car.

Two broken oil pans: one in Siberia and another in Puerto Natales. Strangely, both happened on exactly May 9, one in 2025 and one in 2026. The first was especially tense because he had two days left on the Trans-Siberian route and two days left on his Russian visa before local people helped arrange a repair.

Mainly through sponsors. Some brands have supported the project since very early on, while others joined as the journey grew. Platform revenue also contributes, but it is less predictable and harder to build a multi-month expedition around.

A new season that has not yet been announced. Only a few continents remain. The long-term goal is to complete the round-the-world journey in the same €900 Marea, return to Europe and, if possible, drive back into Spain to close the loop.
